Discover more about infant and toddler pedagogy

This short course unpacks the science behind early learning and development, and how this translates into principles for practice. It also explores proven pedagogical strategies for engaging effectively with infants and toddlers, and you will be supported to apply these practices and strategies in your own setting.

Who is the course for?

The course is for practising teachers and centre leaders and provides opportunities for participants to trial new approaches and strategies as they work through the course.

How does it work?

Designed to enable teachers to participate flexibly over a period of 8 to 10 weeks,
it is expected that participants will spend between one and two hours each week
working through the components of the course. Organised across 8 parts, the course will cover:

  • the principles of effective pedagogy with infants and toddlers
    responsive relationships
  • caregiving
  • play
  • movement
  • communication
  • relationships with families and other teachers

Each part includes readings, videos with experts and case studies of practice, practical activities, and opportunities for reflection, as well as additional resources that enable you to further extend your learning.

The team bringing you this course includes:
Course director:
Dr Vicki Hargraves
Professor Carmen Dalli
Dr Lesley Rameka

  • To develop knowledge of appropriate pedagogical techniques for observing, learning about and developing a relationship with an individual child and their family

Do I get a certificate?

A certificate will be available to download and print from each participant’s Profile page, when they have completed the course.

Enrolling a group

A group of teachers from a centre can enrol and enjoy a discount of up to 50% on the full course fee of $95. Each teacher can then work their way through the course material in their own time, and on their own device (ideally a laptop or desktop computer). There are no classes to attend at specific times, and recordings of any webinars that are held will be available for participants to view afterwards. When participants reach the end of the course, a personalised certificate will be available to download and print from their Profile page.

If you would like to enrol a group of teachers in this course, please select the Group option in the panel on this page, and choose a name for your group. If you want to participate in the course as well, choose ‘Enrol me’ and include yourself in the total number of participants. If you are not participating in the course, you will just be the administrator for your group.

After you have purchased the enrolments, the purchaser can add all the participants from the Group enrolment admin link, which will show on their Profile page once the transaction is complete. If you wish to add more participants to your group later on, you will need to register them separately from this page. Please note that to qualify for the multiple enrolment discount, participants must be enrolled at the same time, in one transaction. Higher discount levels cannot be applied retrospectively. Swapping participants after enrolment may be possible, with the approval of The Education Hub.

The following discounts are available for groups of teachers enrolling at one time, in one transaction. The discounts are applied to the full course fee of $95. Early-bird prices are not discounted.
