Professor Jodie Hunter from Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa | Massey University shares insights from her extensive classroom-based research into the use of culturally responsive approaches to teaching and learning mathematics in primary school. The webinar explores the importance of using high quality tasks to provide equitable and culturally responsive opportunities for Pasifika and Māori students to engage in productive mathematical learning, and offers ways that teachers can explicitly connect to and build on the cultural, social, linguistic, and political contexts of all their students.

Professor Jodie Hunter

Professor Jodie Hunter is a lecturer in the Institute of Education and teaches papers in the area of Mathematics Education and Pasifika education at Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa | Massey University. She has previously worked in the area of mathematics education at Plymouth University in the UK, in the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching and Learning. Her research interests include effective mathematics teaching and culturally responsive teaching for Pasifika learners.
