In education, the term science of learning is used widely—but what does it actually encompass? This webinar with Dr Stephanie MacMahon from the UQ Learning Lab at the University of Queensland will dive beneath the surface to explore the true complexity of the field and why a holistic, multidisciplinary understanding matters for effective teaching.

The webinar will unpack the diverse bodies of research that contribute to the science of learning, examining their distinct epistemological and philosophical foundations and the different ways they conceive of and define learning. From cognitive science to neuroscience and educational psychology, we’ll look at how these perspectives intersect, where they diverge, and how each has shaped the broad and evolving landscape is now referred to as the science of learning.

This session will offer educators the opportunity to build a richer, deeper, and more nuanced understanding of the science of learning—one that both extends beyond and strengthens the ideas they may already be familiar with. You’ll come away with a clearer sense of the field’s complexity and more confidence in navigating and applying research to support teaching and learning.
