The design process

The design process

Jacqui Lee and her teaching team at Pakuranga Baptist Kindergarten discuss how one teacher’s interest in fashion design led to the development of a cross-curricular focus on design thinking. The teachers observed that principles of design were influencing children’s work across the centre, and chose to build on this way of thinking by providing opportunities for children to engage in thinking more deeply about design and the design process.

The teaching team discuss how this project on design enabled them to provide a range of experiences that offered different opportunities for children to engage with the concept of design. Using their observations and Danielle’s knowledge of the design process, they discuss how they worked alongside children to explore this concept across their curriculum.
