Relational leadership and teacher wellbeing in early childhood education

Coming on Tuesday 15 September, 7.30pm

Teacher wellbeing is essential—not only for individual health but also for effective leadership, strong collegial relationships, and high-quality teaching and learning. When wellbeing is compromised by stress, fatigue, or burnout, the impacts are wide-reaching, diminishing motivation, creativity, and problem-solving in early childhood settings.

In this live webinar, experienced early childhood teacher and leader Alistair Gibbs will explore the reciprocal relationship between leadership and wellbeing, and how relational approaches can strengthen both. Through this lens, you will:

  • Explore the complex relational dynamics that shape everyday practice
  • Consider the balance of accountability and relationship needs as an ethical issue in leadership
  • Examine how collegial relationships and leadership practices grounded in trust, empathy, and collaboration contribute to wellbeing, retention, and safe, supportive cultures
  • Reflect on strategies to sustain wellbeing and professional identity and to strengthen community within educational contexts

With wellbeing and retention pressing issues in the profession, this session offers insights and practical approaches to help teachers and leaders create environments where people feel valued, supported, and motivated. This webinar includes opportunities for you to ask questions and connect ideas to your own contexts. Mark your calendar for an inspiring session not to be missed.

About the presenter

Alistair Gibbs

Alistair has been working within the early childhood sector in various roles for over thirteen years. He has worked as an educator, a kindergarten teacher and an Educational Leader. His current role is as an Early Learning Manager within a not-for-profit, for-purpose organisation. Alistair sits on the National Board for Early Childhood Australia as a Director and is also a Board Member for Social Justice in Early Childhood. These combined roles allow him to embrace the different facets of leadership whilst finding balance in the different governance levels that underpin the quality programmes and societal change we can provide within our environments. Alistair is committed to being an advocate and support to educators, children, and families in their capabilities, knowledge, and rights, which have seen him critically reflect on programme and practices, challenging how we approach anti-bias themes such as gender equity within early childhood. Alistair strives to use his various roles to challenge and empower, with integrity and respect, the voice of self and others.
