Generative AI is now part of young people’s daily lives — from study support to creative exploration. Rather than trying to ban its use, schools need to equip students with the skills to use AI safely, honestly, and effectively.

About the presenters

Susana Tomaz

Susana Tomaz works at the intersection of AI, curriculum design, and future-focused education. She has a Master’s in Technological Futures specialising in AI in education (AcademyEx) and a Master’s from University College London (UCL), and has over 20 years’ experience across three education systems, bringing deep expertise in pedagogical leadership, educational innovation, and system-wide change. She is Futures Education and AI Lead at Westlake Girls’ High School, where she leads strategic, school-wide AI integration. She also led Westlake’s STEAM programme, which was recognised in an OECD study across five countries. She is currently leading the development and national rollout of Day of AI Aotearoa | New Zealand, empowering teachers and students to navigate and shape an AI-enabled future.
