In this webinar, Dr Sonya Gaches from the University of Otago explores how objects associated with home serve as holders of narratives that create a sense of belonging for children and connect them to their histories, their people, and their stories.
She also discusses how this relates to listening deeply to tamariki and their many related rights.
Dr Sonya Gaches is a senior lecturer in the College of Education at Otago University | Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka. She received Bachelor’s degrees in both early childhood and elementary education in the USA and taught at a variety of early childhood levels for more than twenty years in Arizona. After completing her PhD, she was a teacher educator at the University of Arizona in Tucson for six years before moving to the University of Otago.
