Risks are an important aspect of learning. Ensuring children are provided with opportunities to explore, take risks, engage in risk-taking language, and learn their own boundaries is key to supporting them to develop resilience, perseverance, and confidence in their abilities.

Jacqui Lee and her teaching team at Pakuranga Baptist Kindergarten discuss the connection between opportunities for risk taking, the language surrounding risky play, and children’s learning. They highlight examples of how they find a balance between offering risky opportunities and navigating hazards.
