Documentation in early childhood education is the culmination of children’s inquiries and pedagogical practice. Through respectful documentation, the assessment of learning can lead to the development of a meaningful and authentic curriculum.

Jacqui Lee and her teaching team at Pakuranga Baptist Kindergarten discuss how they use documentation to conceptualise their inquiries and learning. They describe how their documentation has moved beyond summarising learning and assessment to capturing and displaying the engagement of children and teachers in projects. They demonstrate how this brings the centre together as a whānau, and captures their history.
