Teachers’ professional decision-making about text choice in secondary school English

15 Sep 2025

There are many considerations that English teachers take into account when choosing which texts to teach, including pedagogical, socio-cultural, and political questions, as well as a knowledge of their students and their strengths and interests. Assessment requirements and departmental priorities also shape these decisions.

In this webinar, teachers Dr Taylor Hughson and Jordan Tricklebank, along with Dr Claudia Rozas from Waipapa Taumata Rau | The University of Auckland, will explore the many factors influencing teachers’ professional decision-making. They will also share some examples of texts they have taught throughout their careers, and how successful they were in terms of achieving their teaching and learning objectives.
