Understanding Developmental Language Disorder and how it can affect learning

24 Jun 2025

Developmental Language Disorder or DLD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions, affecting approximately one in every 14 people. Children and young people with DLD experience difficulties with the comprehension and expression of meaning through language. They may have trouble finding the words to express themselves, organising sentences, understanding words, following instructions, answering questions, and remembering what someone has said.

In addition, they may have difficulty paying attention and learning to read and write. In this webinar, speech pathologist Vanessa Leaver talks about DLD, how it can affect children and young people at school, and how to support students with DLD in the classroom.
