This course focuses on leaders as individuals and helps you to learn about a repertoire of leadership styles identified in research to creatively tailor a leadership style for your own contexts, people, and purposes. You will be supported to develop a philosophy for your personal leadership, to determine the kind of leader you want to be and the values that are important to you, and then to cultivate a set of actions and behaviours which help you to realise this leadership in practice.
The course is designed for those currently in leadership positions who are seeking to expand their skill set in leading themselves and others more mindfully and more authentically, and also for aspiring leaders who are looking to build a powerful foundation for their leadership journey. It is designed for leaders seeking a more inspiring way of thinking about their role and the potential impact they can have.

Introduces the range of leadership styles described in the leadership literature and the impact these have on others. Participants engage in creative activities to help them to reflect on their own practice.
Part 2: Values
Supports participants to identify and deepen the values that inform their vision for leadership and explores what visionary leadership is and how incorporating visionary leadership skills may enrich their leadership practice.
Part 3: Processes
Offers some theoretical and philosophical approaches to provoke thinking and reflection about the way in which participants see themselves, their team, and their setting coming together to create their particular early childhood practices. It also explores democratic leadership, including aspects of a kaupapa Māori perspective, and how these can empower teams to contribute in a range of ways.
Part 4: People
Focuses on leadership styles that put people at the centre of leadership practice, including affiliative leadership and servant leadership, and conceptualising leadership as a relational practice.
Part 5: Culture
Examines leadership through kaupapa Māori and Pasifika lenses, offering an opportunity for participants to broaden their perspectives and provoke their thinking.
Part 6: Being authentic
Synthesises all the learning about leadership during the first half of the course and supports participants to put this together to form a coherent leadership style, which is firmly anchored in their personal values of leadership.
Part 7: Ethics
Deals with ethical leadership, which is increasingly important in the context of
diverse communities and the complex interrelationships between aspects of practice in early childhood education and their associated outcomes for children, teachers, and families.
Part 8: Supporting yourself as leader
Explores the importance of professional development and maintaining wellbeing as a leader, and supports participants to develop practices that ensure their ongoing development, wellbeing, and satisfaction.
