This course has six parts, five of which take you through the key phases of a mentoring relationship. For each phase, there is a suite of tools designed specifically for that stage of the relationship, like meeting agendas, reflection tools, evaluation rubrics, models for goal-setting, and more. The sixth part of the course is dedicated to trouble-shooting common challenges in mentoring relationships.
In this part you will work through a range of tasks and activities to help you develop strong self-understanding and begin to think about what mentoring practice will mean and look like for you. You will develop a vision for your mentoring practice in general, and this mentoring partnership in particular.
In this part you will work through the important process of setting the ground rules for how the mentoring relationship will proceed, building trust with your mentee and developing norms and practices for effective communication.
In this part, you will work through a systematic process for establishing appropriate goals for the mentoring relationship, and learn to support your mentee to select goals that are achievable, meaningful, and aligned to the goals and philosophy of your setting.
In this part, you will get stuck into the work of iterative learning which is built incrementally over many meetings. A wide range of tools is provided to support his phase of the mentoring relationship.
In this part you will consider when you will know it is time to close the relationship, and plan how you will do it, as well as considering how to summarise and celebrate what you and your mentee have learned and achieved.
This part explores a range of common challenges that arise in mentoring relationships, and supports you to identify and tackle any specific difficulties that you may encounter.
