Walking in students’ shoes: What every teacher can learn about expectations and bias

Dr Christine Rubie-Davies is an Emeritus Professor of Education at Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland. She is the world leader on high expectation teaching and teachers who have high expectations for all students. Christine is interested in how teacher beliefs and practices increase or decrease expectation effects and primarily focuses on teacher expectation effects for disadvantaged groups, particularly Māori. She is a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand, of the American Psychological Association and of the Association for Psychological Science. Christine has been recognised as among the top 2% of education researchers globally.

Dr Frauke Meyer is an Associate Professor at Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland whose research focuses on educational leadership, school improvement, and equity in student outcomes. She works closely with schools and leaders, with a particular focus on how strategic leadership can improve learning conditions and support equitable student achievement. She brings a strong evidence-based perspective to conversations about educational change, leadership development, and equity-oriented reform. Her work has been published and presented internationally.
