    About this course

This course unpacks the science behind early learning and development, and its implications for practice. It explores proven pedagogical strategies for engaging effectively with infants and toddlers, and supports you to apply these practices and strategies in your own setting.

The learning objectives of the course are:

    • To understand the science behind early learning, and how this translates into principles for practice
    • To increase understanding of practices for quality relationships, interactions and caregiving for infants and toddlers
    • To increase knowledge of practices for supporting play, language and movement
    • To develop knowledge of appropriate pedagogical techniques for observing, learning about and developing a relationship with an individual child and their family

Organised across eight parts, the course will cover:

    • the principles of effective pedagogy with infants and toddlers
    • responsive relationships
    • caregiving
    • play
    • movement
    • communication
    • relationships with families and other teachers

Each part includes readings, videos with experts or case studies of practice, practical activities, and opportunities for reflection, as well as additional resources that enable you to further extend your learning.

Please work your way through each part in order, using the Mark complete buttons at the bottom to keep track of your progress. If you forget to do this, you can go back and mark them complete at a later stage. Your certificate will be available once all parts have been marked complete.

In the last part of the course, we will ask you to provide feedback on your experience. As you go through the course, please note any issues or mistakes, and include those in your feedback to help us to refine the course experience. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We look forward to working with you. If you’re enrolled, you can get started on Part 1 on Monday February 28.
